I’m Heard is a nonprofit focused on raising awareness on mental health in ethnic, racial and sexual minorities, as well as connecting diverse communities to mental health professionals. I’m Heard was founded in September 2018 and is run by a team led by Kala Omeiza
During her Fulbright grant, Kala was volunteering with an organization dedicated to eliminating the stigma of mental illness in Nigeria. She was inspired by the team’s commitment and passion for mental health and wellness. Kala then searched for a similar national organization that had a focus on minority populations in the US to join. When she found out there wasn’t one, she decided to start one herself. She gathered diverse colleagues, standouts she met at Psychology Conferences, and others in academic settings to consist of the founding board of I’m Heard.
Together, the current team has agreed to use their diverse talents and background to contribute to the greater of good of our communities by working towards eliminating the stigma of mental illness in minority populations.
